Mandala Case Study #2 - Waltraud Bertha Helene Nuss

Three weeks ago I was contacted by a friend’s friend.

Sue had seen my friends mandala hanging up in her home - and got in contact with me, to ask me to paint something I had never painted before.

“My aunt is dying - and I would like to commission a mandala in memory of her”.

A memorial mandala to commemorate her very dear Aunt - at almost 99 was just days away from leaving this earth side plane.

Waltraud (Wally) Bertha Helene Nuss - born in 1925, was an avid bushwalker, gardener - always calm, reasonable and practical. With 3 children, 5 grand-children and many great grandchildren…..

Sue asked for eucalyptus greens, soil browns and beige to be included. I asked what her favourite flower was - and “wattle” was the answer.

Wally’s life path number being “8”, and with 8 children/ grandchildren - this is the numerology throughout the piece - 8 fractals at the center with red earth soil at its heart, 17 sprigs of wattle, and the outer rim of 26 little Rocky outcrops with plants to navigate in between.

When I sent the image of the mandala to Sue yesterday after the last dots went in… she wrote back “you have captured her spirit remarkably well”.

Knowing that …. brought a tear to my eye, and a swelling to my heart knowing I have done justice to this remarkable woman’s spirit with colour, design and the energy in this mandala.

Truly an honour to paint this mandala in memory of Wally.
