Numerology – what do the numbers mean?
Numerology is the study of numbers in one’s life.
We can uncover information about the world and also each individual person by using numbers.
Numerology can be seen as a universal language of numbers.
Numerology is the concept that the universe is a system and that once broken down, we are left with the basic elements, which are numbers.
Numerology has been used for thousands of years to link numbers with intention, or understanding life past, or happening or to come in the future and its interaction with the environment and in relationship with others.
Its origins can be traced back to the ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Babylon. Ancient Greek communities also had their own form of Numerology, which they used to predict events and interpret dreams.
The 6th-century BCE philosopher and mystic Pythagoras believed that numbers carried sacred codes and were divinely inspired and created - that the physical world was the amalgamation of the energetic vibrations of numbers, and developed a system that corresponded letters with integers. This practice was a study of numerical interconnectivity — the belief that everything is aligned through non-physical forces best articulated through numbers.
As a small girl growing up in Adelaide ..... I knew that the number “8” was a lucky one, that 32 was my favourite number (just felt an affinity for this number), and perhaps 13 is “superstitious” and a number to be avoided (however....I since know that 13 is actually a divine and lucky number !).
So how can we use numerology in the creation of a mandala?
I take on board a person’s life path number – in the creation of a mandala, and bring that number in fractals within the centre or a particular layer of the design. I may also link a number to a person’s heart desire of what they would like to attract more of in life – and bring that number into fractal development.
Whilst numerology can also be calculated on one’s name at birth... a life path number (based on their birth date) is the most important number. And that’s what we will concentrate here.
A life path number is a single-digit number that is calculated using a persons birth date. This number is believed to reveal a persons strengths, personality traits, weaknesses, and life purpose. This number is reflective of who you are or could be, in your personality and traits.
It is calculated by adding up the numbers in your full date of birth. For example, 2nd March, would be 2 + 3 = 5.
Then the birth year of 2003 is broken down as 2 + 0 + 0 + 3 = 5.
Now you add the day and month and year digits together like 5 + 5 = 10 (and because that is not a master number of 11, 22, or 33....we add them together again). So 10 becomes 1+ 0 which becomes “1”.
So every birthdate keeps getting added together to become a single numeral (unless it’s a master numer of 11, 22 or 33).
Sound complicated? Nope – it’s not. Very simple.
Once you have calculated your life path number, let’s have a look at what that number says about you and your life. You will be able to see what that means for you.

So how do I use these numbers above in the mandala development?
I will divide the 360 degrees by the number above to get the angle. For instance – for numerology of 8 – I would divide 8 into 360 – which is 45. From then I know I will radiate a line from the centre out every 45 degrees, to get 8 lines for that layer of the design.
From the above – what number does your birthdate calculate out to be ? Does that number resonate with you?
If you were to put a mandala together – what numbers would you like to invite into its development?
